How long will it take for an adult dog to adjust to a new puppy?

Ive just brought a jrt puppy 11 weeks old. I already have a 5 yr old jrt. They are both male. After 24 hrs the adult is taking less notice of the new arrival but for long periods the adult keeps licking pups bits and at times pins the pup down. How long should it take for the 2 to live in perfect harmony
