Should the U.S have entered the war in Iraq? What do you think would have happened if we didn't?

Many people are fighting in Iraq and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect America. Do you believe that our country would have been the same had we not entered the war? Or would our country had been a barren waste land recovering from the aftermath of nuclear destruction? Other answers welcome.
